Many of these ‘about’ sections start along the lines of so-and-so is an artist from such-and-such a place and talks about their years of experience and influences and what school they may belong to. This isn’t so easy with Emma Nicholson, who is a multi-faceted artist that has never managed to settle on any one medium or style. There’s just far too many things out there that need to be tried to just stick to one.  From original oil compositions that question our perspective on the world and society, to charcoal sketches of people’s pets. It becomes hard to say this is where she is from and this is what she does.
For now at least, we can call her an artist living in the North East of England. That is, whilst she is doing her PhD in Ancient History at Newcastle University. Prior to this, she has not just lived in the south, east, and north of England, but also the Channel Islands and a little further afield, in China and Taiwan. All of these places have taken a part in shaping Emma Nicholson through good and through bad, and all of this resonates through her current works, and works to come.
Whilst a large portion of her artwork is done in oil, it wasn’t that long ago that she first started using oil paints. Just a few years back in early 2010, oil paints first found their way from her brushes to the canvas in the form of a very red forest scape 'Red Dawn', but since then they have been one of her favourite mediums.

A quick browse through the galleries and it becomes fairly apparent that Emma is very much a lover of animals. From pets to the wonders of nature, and especially horses, she has a fondness for mother nature that she loves to put on paper or canvas. But don’t forget the landscapes, portraits, and the just-plain-differents.  So go ahead and have a browse, there should be something here for you, and if you have any questions or queries, don’t hesitate to ask.
